 waderer and CMBO naturalists on a search for waterfowl (amorous or otherw
 ise) from Avalon to Cape May! We time this program each year to coincide 
 with the peak of mating activity for Long-tailed Ducks – and this just ha
 ppens to be right around Valentine’s Day! The wonderful sound of caterwau
 ling Long-tailed Ducks fills the air as amorous males flirt their long ta
 ils\, plumes and outrageous pink bills\, to draw the attention of the see
 mingly indifferent females. Though this wonderful spectacle will be our m
 ain target\, we shall also travel through coastal Cape May to find and en
 joy a wide range of wintering ducks and other wetland species too. Scoter
 s\, mergansers\, eiders and many other ducks\, plus a great array of shor
 ebirds\, cormorants\, grebes and much more will be enjoyed. SPOTTING SCOP
 ES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THIS TRIP\n\nWe do not set a firm daily sch
 edule in advance\, leaving us flexible to maximize birding opportunities\
 , taking advantage of weather conditions\, tides\, and recent bird sighti
 ngs. We may walk up to 1.5 miles\, over generally level\, sometimes muddy
  or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties.\n\nPREREGISTRAT

 eck the forecast in advance and dress in layers appropriate for prevailin
 g weather conditions. The weather in Cape May can differ considerably fro
 m nearby inland areas and may be warmer\, colder\, or windier so it’s bes
 t to be over prepared. We may have to bird in the rain\, so please bring 
 your rain gear.\n\nTRANSPORTATION: Please arrive at the appointed time wi
 th a full tank of gas\, as transportation to field sites is by private ve
 hicles.  We may walk up to 1.5 miles\, over generally level\, sometimes m
 uddy or sandy terrain. Some trips involve walks over jetties.\n\nCANCELLA
 TION: CMBO programs require a minimum number of registrants to run\, five
  days in advance of the start of the tour but are seldom cancelled. If we
  do cancel\, due to lack of participation\, severe weather\, or unforesee
 n circumstances\, we notify all participants in advance\, and all are eli
 gible for a full credit or refund. Participants may cancel without penalt
 y if greater than 30 days in advance. Cancellations 10 to 30 days in adva
 nce may be subject to a 25% service charge. No refunds or credits for can
 cellations less than ten days in advance unless due to health emergencies
